Service Overview

A residential electrician is more than a wire puller.

Residential work means working in someone’s home. Protecting floors. Showing up when we said we would. Labeling every breaker before we leave. Coming back when something flickers. Most contractors do the wire; the rest of it is what makes the difference between a repeat customer and a one-time job.

Our residential scope covers the full lifecycle. New construction rough-in (boxes set, conductors pulled, panel pre-wired) and finish (devices installed, fixtures hung, panel labeled, inspector walked). Additions and remodels (extending circuits, adding new ones, integrating with existing wiring). Full-house rewires for older homes (knob-and-tube replacement, aluminum branch replacement, ungrounded outlet conversion). Smart-home integration (Lutron Caseta, Z-Wave, Wi-Fi switches and dimmers). Panel upgrades (covered on the panel-upgrades page). Generator installs (covered on the home-generators page).

Dedicated circuits for kitchens and laundry are the most-overlooked residential scope in our area. Older homes (pre-1980) often have a single circuit feeding the whole kitchen — everything trips when the microwave and the toaster run together. We add the dedicated circuits NEC actually requires (small-appliance, refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal) and fix the trip problem permanently.

For cabin and vacation-rental owners, we also handle remote-property quirks: long underground runs from the road to the cabin, panel-and-meter pedestals for off-the-road properties, automated lighting schedules for unoccupied cabins, and the post-tenant electrical issues that come with short-term rental use.

What’s Included

Residential capabilities.

New construction electrical

Rough-in (boxes, conductors, panel pre-wire) and finish (devices, fixtures, labeling, inspector walk). Coordinated with the GC schedule so we don’t hold up other trades.

Additions + remodels

Extending circuits into the new space, adding new dedicated circuits where load capacity requires, integrating the new electrical with the existing without unbalancing the panel.

Full-house rewires

Knob-and-tube replacement, aluminum branch wiring replacement, ungrounded outlet conversion. Phase the work to keep critical circuits energized while we rewire the rest.

Smart-home integration

Lutron Caseta and RA2 Select most common, Leviton Decora Smart for HomeKit households, Z-Wave for full Home Assistant or Hubitat setups. Scenes, schedules, voice control programmed if you want.

Dedicated kitchen + laundry circuits

NEC-required small-appliance circuits, dishwasher dedicated, garbage disposal dedicated, refrigerator dedicated, microwave dedicated. Fixes the “everything trips when I cook” problem.

Cabin + STR-specific

Long underground runs to remote cabins, panel-and-meter pedestals, automated dusk-to-dawn lighting schedules for unoccupied properties, post-tenant electrical reset visits.

Residential electrical service in East Tennessee

We had Volt Pro do the electrical on our addition and they coordinated cleanly with our framing crew and our drywall crew. Came back twice for finish punch items without billing extra. The kind of sub you keep working with.

Common Questions

Five things we get asked every week.

Do you do small residential jobs too — not just full remodels?
Yes. A single outlet, a ceiling fan swap, a dimmer install, one new circuit — we do small residential work alongside the bigger projects. Same-week scheduling for non-emergency small jobs. Minimum trip charge for under-30-minute jobs is $140.
How do you handle being inside someone’s house?
We wear floor covers, lay drop cloths on flooring we’re walking over, contain dust on any cut-in work, and clean up before we leave. We tell you up front if a job will need access to a specific room or require furniture to be moved. We treat your house the way we want our own treated.
My older home has knob-and-tube wiring — do I need a full rewire?
Depends on condition and your insurance. Some K&T is functional and inspectable, but most insurance companies in Tennessee now refuse to cover homes with active K&T circuits. Full rewires are typically $8,000 to $20,000 for a typical 2,000 sq ft home depending on access. We can also do phased replacement — replace the critical circuits first and the rest over time.
Can you add smart switches to my existing house?
Yes. Most rooms can be converted to Lutron Caseta, Leviton Decora Smart, or Z-Wave switches in a day. The biggest gotcha is older wiring without a neutral at the switch — many smart switches require neutral. We can usually pull a neutral; sometimes a Caseta Pico remote pattern works around the limitation.
Do you work on vacation-rental cabins?
Yes. Cabins in Sevier County, Cocke County, and the surrounding Smokies area are a significant share of our residential work. We handle remote-property specifics: long underground runs, panel-and-meter pedestals, automated dusk-to-dawn lighting, and the post-tenant electrical issues common in STR-managed properties.
